What this tool measures
This is a server-side speed check, so it measures the things that happen before a browser even starts painting. Time to first byte tells you how quickly your server responds. Total download time and HTML size show how heavy your page is on the wire. It also counts your script tags, stylesheet links and images, and checks whether compression and caching headers are switched on. Together these are the raw ingredients of a fast page, and they are the parts you can usually fix without a redesign.
Why speed still matters
Speed is not just a ranking factor, it is a bounce factor. A slow first byte or a bloated page makes people leave before they read a word, and every extra script and uncompressed asset adds to that delay. Google measures real user experience through Core Web Vitals, but you cannot fix what you cannot see. This check gives you the server-side numbers first, because a slow server or a missing compression header will undermine every other optimisation you make.
What the numbers do not cover
This tool measures the response and the page weight, not what happens once the browser starts rendering. Layout shift, render blocking and real user timings need a full lab test and field data to read properly.
